19/06/2007 Toxic Toothpaste Alert Some Chinese-made toothpastes have been recalled because they contained a toxic ingredient, diethylene glycol. Diethylene glycol is usually an ingredient in some types of antifreeze and can cause poisoning to the kidneys, liver and brain.

Consumers are asked to check the list of ingredients on their toothpaste. If it has the ingredients diethylene glycol, diglycol or diglycol stearate they are advised to throw it away. Be aware that "polyethylene glycol"(or "PEG") is not the same substance.
