04/03/2009 White Tailed Spiders - Not Venomous A recent New Zealand Medical Journal article co-authored by Poisons Centre staff has debunked the popular myth that White Tailed Spiders (Lampona cylindrata) are venomous.

White Tailed Spiders are not venomous to humans and do not cause necrotising "flesh eating" wounds. Wounds which were diagnosed as "flesh eating" were likely mistaken identity, bacterial infection or another cause.
