24/07/2009 Women Arrested Carrying Heroin Internally A 32-year-old South African woman has been charged with importing heroin into Australia.

The woman had swallowed 124 "pellets" (latex bags, usually condoms) filled with heroin, amounting to about 1/2 a kilo of the drug.

This method of smuggling, called "body-packing", is highly dangerous; if one of the pellets breaks, it is usually rapidly fatal to the carrier.
